Numerous Volkswagen Group EVs receive £1,500 discount

  • Selected EV models from Volkswagen, Skoda, and CUPRA are set to join the growing number of electric cars with manufacturer-based discounts, as OEMs continue to wait on confirmation on whether their models will be eligible for the official Electric Car Grant.
  • The three brands have all launched separate £1,500 discount schemes, applicable to some of their most popular respective models.
  • The discount will run until the 31st of August, helping to keep EV sales high after reports from elsewhere in the industry that customers are holding off and cancelling EV purchases in anticipation of the Electric Car Grant.

Volkswagen, Skoda, and CUPRA launch £1,500 EV discount schemes

Volkswagen is launching a £1,500 discount on a selection of its ID.3 and ID.4 models, with CUPRA implementing a similar scheme on its CUPRA Born hatchback. Skoda is also offering a £1,500 discount on its Elroq and Enyaq range. The specific trim levels eligible for the discount are outlined on each brand’s respective website. All three are available for retail customers only.

With all three schemes, the £1,500 discount exists in absence of the official ECG. If any models are confirmed to be eligible, customers will no longer receive the manufacturer discount, instead being granted the government subsidy. Depending on the criteria met, this could allow the potential discount to rise up to £3,750.

Volkswagen, Skoda, and CUPRA are just a handful of the many car brands which have launched their own in-house discounts as they wait to be confirmed for ECG eligibility. A number of Chinese EV manufacturers such as MG, GWM, and Leapmotor have also launched similar schemes targeting specific models. In addition, Volvo is now offering a £1,500 discount on its EX30, while Hyundai will grant £3,750 off the price of its most affordable EV, the INSTER.

Rod McLeod, Director of Volkswagen UK, commented:

“We welcomed the Government’s announcement of its Electric Car Grant and wanted to make sure customers could start benefitting from lower-cost electric motoring as quickly as possible. We have already seen an uplift in enquiries since the Government’s grant was announced, which is great news for Volkswagen’s electrification plans.”

Marcus Gossen, Managing Director of SEAT CUPRA UK, added:

“This is a great opportunity for customers to benefit from CUPRA UK’s £1,500 grant guarantee. We want to ensure that EVs are accessible to as many people as possible, so by offering this grant early on our CUPRA Born models, we’re allowing everybody to take advantage. We welcome the government’s announcement of an electric car grant, and we’re keen for everybody to be able to make the most of electric motoring as early as possible.”

Matthew Bowden, Skoda UK Brand Director, said:

“Skoda has always delivered for our customers, and with the introduction of the ‘Grant Guarantee’, we’re taking that to the next level. Both the Elroq and Enyaq have been recognised across the industry for their exceptional all-round ability and I’m delighted that customers are now able to get the benefits of driving an electric car without delay.”
