- Dutch-founded CPO, LEAP24, has expanded its public EV charging infrastructure in the UK’s capital, London, with four new ultra-rapid charging sites.
- With the new sites opening in Barking, Chingford, Pinner, and Watford, LEAP24 now operates nine ultra-rapid charging sites within the M25, helping to make EV ownership ever more accessible for Londoners.
- Despite LEAP24 only opening its first UK public charging point in October last year, the CPO already operates several locations across both London and the rest of England, marking an impressive expansion – with more locations on the way.
More 300kW ultra rapid EV chargers arrive in Greater London
The new sites will each consist of multiple ultra-rapid chargers, with speeds ranging from 150 to 300kW – the latter helping to take maximum advantage of some of the fastest charging cars on the UK market. Charging costs at the sites will stand at a relatively affordable 69p per kWh, a rate which some competitors only offer with paid subscriptions – which LEAP24 does not require.
Compared to the existing competition, LEAP24 is a relative newcomer to the UK’s public charging scene. The firm was founded in 2021, and didn’t open its first UK location until 2024, located in Verwood, Dorset. As a wider strategy, LEAP24 is aiming to build a charging network that spans across North-West Europe, with other countries also already under its belt including the Netherlands and Germany.
Pelle Schlichting, Founder of LEAP24, commented:
“We founded LEAP24 to remove the friction from clean mobility – and our London expansion shows how fast, simple, and fair EV charging can be. We’re not here to take small steps – we take daily leaps toward a future where clean transport is truly accessible to all.”
Ferry Bosgra, Co-Founder and COO of LEAP24, added:
“Building public charging infrastructure in London isn’t easy – from planning to power upgrades, it’s a complex and often slow-moving process. But the LEAP24 team is resilient and forward-looking. We’ve learned how to navigate those hurdles and deliver reliable, high-performance sites in record time. That’s what sets us apart.”
With new public charging investments such as these, heavily urban areas such as London and Greater London are continuing to prove that EV ownership is a practical option even for those unable to charge up at home. It also follows several other significant charging expansions which were announced for London over the last month. ubitricity, for instance, are set to install 2,000 lamppost EV chargers across the East London Borough of Tower Hamlets by the end of the year, whilst char.gy will also roll out 1,000 on-street lamppost chargers across North London’s Barnet Council area.
