- Nissan has teamed up with Octopus Energy to roll out the latest edition of its Nissan Charge app, with Nissan’s service now integrating directly with the Octopus Electroverse public charging platform.
- The integration now means Nissan Charge users have access to over 1 million public charging points worldwide, after that milestone was reached by Octopus Electroverse earlier this month.
- Additional features over the previous iteration of the Nissan Charge scheme include dynamic pricing, easier account setup, and seamless pairing of a separate, physical charge card.
Nissan’s updated charging app has access to over 1 million public chargers
The change comes after Nissan ended its partnership with Plugsurfing last month, which helped to provide public charging access on the previous generation Nissan Charge app. Plugsurfing provides provides charging app platforms for a number of OEMs, including Polestar and Zeekr. This partnership between Octopus and Nissan marks the first time that the Octopus Electroverse technology is being implemented into an OEM’s native charging app, and suggests that the technology could be offered out to more OEMs in the future.
Under the new Octopus Electroverse integration, Nissan’s EV drivers will be able to charge at over 1 million charging points spanning 1,200 separate CPOs, such as IONITY, Allego, Aral pulse, and TotalEnergies. Around 500 public chargers are being added to the platform every day, allowing the Nissan Charge app to only get better as time goes on.
With production of the second-generation Nissan Leaf ending last year, Nissan currently sells just one fully-electric car, the Ariya (excluding the Sakura EV, sold exclusively in Japan). However, with the third-generation Nissan Leaf and first all-electric Micra just around the corner, along with more fully-electric models later down the line, this new and improved Nissan Charge app couldn’t arrive at a more crucial time.
Soufiane El Khomri, Director at Nissan Energy, commented:
“The new Nissan Charge app is an important step in our mission to make electric driving seamless and accessible. By introducing future-ready features, we’re not only helping drivers connect to Europe’s vast charging network, but we’re also laying the foundation for EVs to play an active role in the energy system of tomorrow. It aligns perfectly with our electrification journey, from our EV36Zero initiative to the exciting arrival of our next-generation models like the all-new MICRA and LEAF.”
Matt Davies, Director at Octopus Electroverse, added:
“For the first time, Electroverse’s technology has been integrated into another brand’s charging app — and we’re thrilled to see that debut with Nissan. As EVs become mainstream, drivers want a charging experience as smart as their vehicle. By bringing our cutting-edge technology into the Nissan Charge app, we’re delivering the best of Electroverse – simple access to 80% of all chargers across Europe, money-saving discounts, and quick, hassle-free payments. It’s great to see Nissan embracing Electroverse’s technology to make charging simpler, smarter, and ready for their customers.”
